If you are one of the old SEOs that knows back links are over 80% of internet marketing you might be wondering “why use YouTube?” YouTube’s links are no-follow but there still is value in using it.
- YouTube will never get banned
- Google is looking at branding to rank websites in its search
- YouTube is the second most used search engine
- You reach people which like to watch videos rather than reading a blog post
I have had websites get banned by Google for various reasons. It is frustrating trying to figure out what Google wants me to do to be re-indexed in the search. Google owning YouTube means your videos will never get banned from the index. You can get your account banned by YouTube if you violate its rules but Google will not ban your videos from its search.
Creating a brand is one of the biggest challenges for internet marketers. Posting videos with you in them helps build your brand. When people see you they will recognize you and remember what you represent (your company). Google can never take away a brand. If you are memorable, people will find you. If Coca Cola were to get banned you still would be able to find its website.
Having your brand represented in every search engine is a huge deal. Not having it in the second largest search engine would be a big problem. If you don’t make videos you will not be included in YouTube’s search engine. I understand not every topic has good content for videos. In that case, think outside of the box to make videos for your brand.
People wanting to know how to tie a shoe are not going to want to read about it. You want to reach as many people as possible with your brand and there are people who would rather watch a video than read a blog post. Missing out on reaching these people would be a mistake.
In summary you need to be using YouTube to market your brand. If you don’t you are missing out on potential customers.
